Dr. Milan Sedhai MBBS, MS (ENT, TUTH–IOM), MRCS (ENT, Royal College of Surgeons, UK)

It is my privilege to introduce the ENT Department at Lumbini Eye Institute & Research Center – Shree Ranaambika Shah Eye Hospital, Bhairahawa. Established in 2081/2082 B.S., the department has already made significant progress in providing specialized ear, nose and throat care to the community. In our very first year, we served more than 5,000 patients and successfully carried out over 500 minor surgical procedures, reflecting both the need for quality ENT services and our commitment to meeting it with modern expertise and facilities.

Our department delivers comprehensive care for nasal, ear, throat, airway and voice-related conditions, supported by advanced diagnostic services such as video-assisted endoscopy and outpatient microscopic ear evaluation. We take pride in combining clinical excellence with evidence-based practice, following the latest international guidelines to ensure safe and effective treatment for every patient.

Education and research form an integral part of our mission. In the past year, eight medical professionals have received basic ENT training under our guidance, and we plan to expand these opportunities to DECC staff across the LEIRC network. At the same time, two research studies are ongoing within the department, further strengthening our academic and clinical foundation.

Our services extend beyond Bhairahawa, as we regularly receive patients from across Lumbini Province, neighboring districts of India, and international visitors, including religious pilgrims to Lumbini, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Looking forward, we are preparing to establish a fully equipped ENT operation theatre and dedicated inpatient ward services, which will expand our capacity to provide advanced surgical care.

The department remains committed to delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality ENT services to all, while also contributing to training, research and service development in this region.
