1.MD Residency Programs

We are regularly conducting MD residency in Ophthalmology under affiliation of NAMS ( National Academic Of Medical Sciences).Till now …..Ophthalmologists have been produced who are working in different eye hospitals in Nepal and Abroad. Currently we have 6 MD residents. We also provide short term training in Cataract surgery to the residents posted in our institute from different eye hospital in Nepal.

2. Ophthalmic Assistant Programme

Ophthalmic Paramedical ( Ophthalmic assistant) is the major supportive manpower for Ophthalmologists.Considering this major factor we are also committed to produce trained manpower.Its not possible currently to keep ophthalmologists in every rural setting ,so these Ophthalmic  paramedical can provide quality primary eye care service.Currently we have  120 students( 40 in each year) under affiliation of The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) .

c) Orientation and Mobility Training

Orientation and Mobility Training” Program was held at Lumbini Eye Institute from 5th-10thApril, 2015. The program was focused to the counselors of LEI with the aim of providing mobility services for the visually impaired patients. Mr Prem Maharjan, Mr Hari Bhandari and Mrs Phul Kumari from Nepal association of blindness, Butwal branch were the facilitators. Mr. Hari Bahadur Thapa, senior optometrist, was coordinating program with financial support of Mike Cassedy USA, the Personal Volunteer. There were 7 participants in the program.    

White Cane Techniques (two point touch and ascending and descending)     Road Crossing Techniques.

d) Advanced Pediatric Refraction Training

“Advanced Pediatric Refraction Training” Program was held at this Institute from 10th-20th May, 2015 with the objectives of managing pediatric refraction at primary and secondary eye care centers. Children with complicated refractive errors were referred to tertiary eye centers for further management.

e) Vision Assessment and Orthoptics training program:

Lumbini Eye Institute conducted Vision assessment and Orthoptics Training program in two sessions of 2 months duration. The program primarily aimed to promote the level of the Ophthalmic Assistant’s concepts, ideas and skills related to orthoptics problem.  There were 7 participants.

f) Pediatric Counseling Training

Lumbini Eye Institute conducted Pediatric Counseling Training program in two phases for 1 month. The Pediatric counseling training basically focused to promote the level of patient awareness of eye care in daily life, patient’s satisfaction regarding their treatment and make patients acquired with the problem before treatment.

g) Clinical Low Vision Training

We organized “Clinical Low Vision Training” Program at Lumbini Eye Institute from 1st-7th July, 2015 with the objectives of managing patients with low vision at different eye hospitals and Medical Colleges.  Those patients who needed educational and rehabilitation guidelines were referred to concerned centers. There were 6 participants from different eye hospitals and Medical Colleges.

h) Pediatric Counseling Training (Observational)   

LEI organized observational training program for pediatric counseling from 1st to 31st August 2014.  The training is primarily aimed to provide overall counseling information from the candidates abroad and explore the counseling pattern of our hospital. In this training Mrs. Samia Sarwar participated from Bangladesh.
